I don’t know what the fuss is all about, saying that the quality of the pressing is poor. My one plays fine with no problems? As for the album itself, I believe it’s one of the finest examples of what music should sound like. ????????
My pressing sounds fine. It was a little dusty, but after a cleanup, no problems. To me it sounds good, I compared it to the 45rpm and the latter sounds better, but this one isn't bad at all.
Prince Persie
Not particularly noisy as some others have noted, but agree on the lack of dynamic range. The production album never sounded particularly good but I'm disappointed they didn't do more "remastering"
Sealed copy had lots of dust and after cleaning revealed lots of faint lines. Do they play them in the factory? Also not very good sq. Just got to turn it up and enjoy the music.
My copy was sealed and sounds great, playing it on a Technics 1200 turntable with new Ortofon cartridge and stylus, maybe I was lucky, certainly not as bad as some people are making out, but I'm not an audiophile so what do I know.
Sounds like its been copied direct from CD. Sounds lifeless with no dynamics. Lots of clicks, pops and surface noise.I've just played my 1988 45rpm single of Made of Stone and its sounds far superior. Looks like the original pressings and the 45rpm version are the way to go.
Ordered new/sealed from Amazon US; this does not appear to be a UK-sourced pressing. There is something not right about this pressing. Like others, mine arrived with fingerprints and lots of dust and other manufacturing debris. The sound is not what I'd expect on a 180g remastered edition; rather, it sounds like a direct CD transfer (with lots of pops and other sound artifacts that don't belong).
Mine is a great pressing, I guess i am lucky going by others comments. First time I have owned the vinyl and certainly an upgrade on my original CD
As some here say this release is noisy, but listenable. Especially for the reasonable price I paid. If there wouldn't be noises it would be a really perfect pressing, because if nothing interrupts the sound is amazing. And even if there are some noises, it doesn't interrupt that much. Also there's more noises on side B, mostly on "This Is The One". At least for my copy.
Golden freddi
I never bought a record that noisy. Try to send it back.
I've have this pressing and had the 2015 double vinyl. While the 2015 pressing sounds more open, this one is not bad if you get one without any issues. It really should be on 2 LPs, but this one does the job as long as you're okay with turning up your stereo a bit and it is cheaper.
Decent mastering, no surface noise . A pure pleasure to inhale... I mean to enjoy.
bidding on a mispress on this on Ebay where the B side has U2 joshua tree label on it?! anybody seen one like this?
Just scored this from tescos.. Absolutely sound.. Perhaps some folk are just experiencing static?
Phallozs Dwarfs
Crap pressing. Also it's using the new digital remix for some tracks, most noticeably "She Bangs The Drums" - absolute garbage.
Vinyl (factory sealed) was filthy out of the sleeve. I cleaned it with Okki Nokki, which revealed scuffs and scratches. Also a big chunk on side of record, sharp enough to cut yourself. Lots of clicks and pops, sounds like VG+ with first play. Horrible press. It's a shame.
That sucks man. Waste of a sweet LP. Got my copy back in the summer, 180g made in the UK, no issues. I hope your vinyl guy took it back.
Has anyone else got an off centre inner label? Looks like stevie wonder did it
Picked this up as surprised to see it at my local supermarket - and my copy is just like what many users describe here - awful sound quality, loads of scratchy noises all over the place, the volume fluctuates wildly, and worst of all - it skips everywhere. Shame.
There is nothing wrong with this pressing at all. It is dynamic, clean and quiet. I am not sure why some people state that this pressing is a crap. Maybe we are talking about different pressings.
Sounds great maybe the negative commenters got lemons (quite fitting with the album art)
Sound is clean, no problems .. had a few unofficial ones of this.. they sound like ripped home casette tapes compared to this 2014 ,eu,180g issue
Sounds awful, unlistenable. Treat yourself to the original 1989 pressing if you like this album..it sounds incredible. Bought it second hand for 35 pounds sterling (wouldn't normally spend anywhere near that on a second hand LP) - but it's worth it for the hours of joy you'll get - a masterpiece.
What exactly is the problem with your copy that makes it awful and unlistenable? Is it the pressing or the remastering you find awful? The pressing of my copy is quite flawless.
Don't know what happened to your copy. I've compared this side by side with an original version. Wasn't a lot in it sound quality wise. Reissue was a lot quieter background noise too although that's probably due to it being brand new.
Sounds good.. Love the little touch with a bold logo no the front, as the original..But be shure to read the instructions propperly, i did it all wrong and got my dick stuck in the curling iron
Sounds grand no popping or clicking on mine no skipping or defects although it was dirty and a little scuffed, and I have to agree with another poster on here that it does sound a bit lifeless.
I was able to get a good deal on this pressing through the Amazon marketplace. Yes it's pretty noisy on both sides, but in terms of the mastering, I find this pressing isn't as terrible as the reviews here are making it out to be. Glad to have it in my collection, but I anticipate disappointment if you're paying above $20 US for it.
this is the worst vinyl i've ever had. total crap.
Could you please enlighten us about why this is the worst vinyl you've had? What exactly is the problem? The music, the mastering or the pressing?
Bloody awful repress, save your pennies and buy an original , expect to pay upwards of £40, but when you hear it, you'll know where the exrta Money went
Have the original. It is not significantly better than this pressing. The new remaster is better though.
Picked this up for £7.99 in HMV today what a bargain!
No, definitely this repress. Same matrix nos etc. I don't know what half the people on Discogs are on about most of the time, I think they're all glue sniffers. Most of them don't even have an original to compare it against and in the case of this album, there's myriad of different presses from the original period anyway (I have at least 3, my brother has about ten) that vary in quality of press and thinness of vinyl etc. The original press was always a little quiet anyway and if you look into the recording of it, wasn't done with the biggest budget (which is why they did a remaster back in 2009 and changed various things in the mix - Reni's BVs being brought up, drums louder, generally sounding brighter etc. It's the same with MBV's loveless - The original was an awful pressing and hardly anyone has a copy to compare it against anyway, it's just a bunch of know nothing nerds wanting to sound like they know what they're on about listening on their shitty little record decks. I'd rather people talk about how good the album "is" rather than how it doesn't sound like the original blah blah. Anyway, yeah definitely this press and definitely a great sounding record of possibly one of the greatest debut albums made. Maybe they need a better deck, maybe their stylus needs cleaning, maybe the record needs cleaning, maybe they need some cotton buds. Maybe there's a % of presses out there with defects, maybe there's a different, earlier press with the same matrix. Maybe there's a batch pressed at a different plant (it happens, BoC had issues with the last lot of represses in France I think).
huh? How come everyone else is saying this is a dud? Were you guys lucky - or are you talking about a different repress perhaps?
Great pressing too.
same buddy, an absolute bargain price for a stone cold classic.
Just going to confirm what everyone else here is saying; this is not a very good repress. Tons of surface noise and a somewhat lifeless sound, though still listenable. At least the artwork (& sleeve quality) is fantastic, I especially love the embossed letters. Probably still worth the $20 or whatever I spent on it, but this is one of my favorite albums so I had to have it.
One of my favorite albums. However, this release sounds lifeless to me.
Bought this brand new today from a high street store on opening i discovered a piece of vinyl dirtier than some of the £1 bargin bin stuff i pick up at my local market!!! Thankfully after a good clean the media plays fine but still has an annoying mark on side one
same happened to me!
Mine is also a mess. Smudges and scuffs on side B. Really shit quality control on this repress.
I don't believe this is remastered? It sounds just like the original '89 pressing and the quality is great.
Mine had marks on side2 and a jump during She Bangs the Drums. Very annoying.
Mine has finger prints and smudges all over it too. Shame really. I was hoping for a superb sound on 180g.
Ordered two records and both had gigantic scratches on Side B and finger prints all over the place. Disappointing to say the least. The Remaster actually sounds good on the undamaged parts though... so there's that.
Mine had giant finger prints on both sides :(
A bit noisy...
a lot noisy! Disappointed.
