A double album of live material from 1968, this duplicates a lot of the material on Happy Trails and adds considerably more. This erratic collection reflects Quicksilver's best and worst qualities: The hard-driving blend of ragafolkpsychedelic rock is fine, while the blues jams are fairly awful. Type Album. I have this set in my collection. It's weird to realise that it is an unofficial release. I say this because I purchased my copy when it came out in 1983 from the HMV store in Oxford Street, London. So for a pirate operation, the distribution sure was good.

Psycho Records were based in Funhouse Records of Margate, UK. One of the guys Malcolm Galloway still deals in rare records.

Genuinely the best Quicksilver Messenger Service you can get for your money. "Happy Trails" is a landmark, but it is also a montage like "Anthem of the sun" by the Grateful Dead, where loads of different recordings are spliced together (a very modern technique I do not at all object to). However, these were live bands, and incredible at that if captured in the right moment. And this is what you get here. Possibly a bit nervous and overambitious at times, but, hell, these boys could jam together. A dense rendition of "Who do you love" (with an as it were intergalactic swagger, if you like acid head cowboys fiddling with old Chicago blues chestnuts. But if Them and the Animals were accepted to do so, why forbid this to some long-haired dudes from California. You also get live renditions of three other songs from their marvellous debut, the mopey "The fool", an er crypto-progressive epic, being the let-down. But in terms of quality inspired interplay you should seek no further. Briefly (possibly for two years they belonged to the ranks of those incredible live rock bands, that people who saw them will remember for all their lives. (I did not see them, but I have seen the Violent Femmes at their peak, or the Lounge Lizards with Marc Ribot, or The Jesus Lizard.) I happily accord my five stars to this and not to Burial. Yeah, that's what I say.

you insult QMS by including their name in relation to Violent Femmes, Lounge Lizards and other utter rubbish useless groups
