Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock is a compilation album by George Thorogood and the Destroyers, released in 2004. The album celebrates 30 years of the band, and includes two tracks which are new versions of previously released hits. The album peaked at number 55 on the US Billboard 200 and reached number one on the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand chart. George Thorogood vocals, guitar, harmonica. Ron Smith guitar. Billy Blough bass guitar. Jeff Simon drums. John Nagy engineer. Released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of George Thorogood & the Destroyers - their first album may not have come out until 1977, but they cut their first sessions in 1974 - Capitol's Greatest Hits: 30 Years of Rock was designed to replace 1992's The Baddest of George Thorogood and the Destroyers as the band's definitive single-disc. Considering that the 1992 disc is out of print as is the exhaustive and exhausting 1997 double-disc set Anthology, this does indeed stand as the best compilation currently in print, and even edges out Baddest by running a little bit longer and containing more of his late-'80searly-'90s radio hits. George Thorogood & The Destroyers is an American blues-rock band led by George Thorogood born December 31, 1951, a blues-rock and rock guitarist and singer from Wilmington, Delaware. To date the band has released sixteen studio albums, including two that were certified Platinum, six that have been certified Gold, and have sold fifteen million albums worldwide. While a first album entitled Better Than the Rest was recorded in 1974, the major recording debut came with the release of the eponymous album 'George Thorogood & The Destroyers', released in 1977 Bette read more. Unfortunately, the digital album I bought was very different from the CD. Even though, at first glance, the cover art looks almost identical, the digital album is titled Essentials and consists of 20 tracks which are a mix of live & studio tracks. The CD is almost all studio tracks and beautifully remastered. I recently came across George Thorogood and the Destroyers randomly on YouTube and decided to give them a go, as I fancied a bit of a change.
